Boys’ Basketball Defeats Southview in Division III District Final, 65-40
The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team secured the Division III Northwest 1 District Championship on Saturday with a 65–40 victory over Sylvania Southview at Liberty-Benton High School. The title marks the third-straight district championship for the Fighting Irish and their fifth district crown in the past six seasons. With the win, CCHS improves to 21–3 on the season.
CCHS seized control of the neutral-site matchup in the second quarter, outscoring the Cougars 18–4 to build a commanding lead.
Senior guard Manny Johnson led the Scarlet & Gray with 19 points. Junior guard Cayden Kynard added 16 points, while junior guard Jason Lawson, Jr. contributed 11.
Southview was led by Jaron Witcher, who finished with 19 points, while Adam LePla added 11 for the Cougars.
Central Catholic returns to action Wednesday, March 11, when the Fighting Irish face Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy at 6 p.m. in Savage Arena on the campus of the University of Toledo.
