Central Catholic Celebrates Catholic Schools Week
Catholic Schools Week is an annual initiative led by the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) to celebrate the excellence and impact of Catholic schools. Each year since 1974, Catholic schools observe the celebration through a variety of activities, emphasizing the importance of Catholic education.
This year's celebration takes place Sunday, January 25 through Saturday, January 31. The theme for National Catholic Schools Week 2026 is Catholic Schools: United in Faith and Community. Throughout the week, schools focus on the value of Catholic education for young people and its contributions to our church, our communities, and our nation.
“The biggest misconception about Catholic Schools Week is that it’s about promotion,” said Fr. Kevin Moebius (Class of 1999), Central Catholic’s Priest Leader. “In reality, at its heart, Catholic Schools Week is about gratitude. It is an opportunity to thank our teachers, staff, parents, and supporters who faithfully sustain Catholic education. I'm honored to say to our Irish family... Thank you.”
Students and staffulty are participating in a variety of activities to celebrate the week, including all-school Mass, showing their school pride with spirit wear, completing a community project in their theology classes, creating thank-you notes and prayer cards for our local police and fire departments, and receiving a special message from former CCHS Priest Leader, Fr. David Kidd, in their theology classes. Fr. Kidd now serves as the Director of the Office of Priestly Vocations for the Diocese of Toledo.
