Central Catholic Participates in Division II District Track & Field Championship

The Central Catholic boys’ and girls’ track & field teams participated in the Division II District Championship on Wednesday and Friday at Defiance High School.  The Fighting Irish had a combined 9 student-athletes finish in the Top 6 to qualify for this week’s Regional Championship.

The boys’ squad finished 5th among 22 teams with 51 points, while the girls’ squad placed 10th with 30 points.

On the girls’ side, senior Nyla King captured 1st place in the 100-meter (11.87), 200-meter, (25.34), and 400-meter dash (55.70) at the 2-day event.

On the boys’ side, junior Victor Singleton, Jr. outjumped the competition in the long jump (21-8).

The reigning D-II state champion in the long jump, Singleton was also a member of the 4×400-meter relay (3:26.92) that finished 2nd, along with sophomore Cle’ondre Davis, junior Jerome Davis V, and sophomore Keith Cooper.

In addition, CCHS placed 2nd in the 4×100-meter relay (43.38) on the strength of strong performances by Cle’ondre Davis, sophomore Jeremiah Fuller, Jerome Davis, and freshman Khary Carson II.

Also registering Top 6 finishes for the boys’ team in individual events were Fuller (11.14, 2nd) and junior Ian Smith, Jr. in the 100-meter dash (11.21, 3rd), Carson in the 200-meter run (23.31, 6th), and sophomore Billy Williams in the 100-meter hurdles (15.65, 6th).

The Fighting Irish will return to the track on Thursday, May 29 for the Division II Regional Championship at Lexington High School (103 Clever Lane, Lexington, 44904).  The 2-day event is slated to begin at 4 p.m. on Thursday. The 2nd day of the regional meet will take place on Saturday, May 31 at 12:30 p.m.
