Central Catholic Students Earn High Scores on AP Exams

Students at Central Catholic performed well once again on their spring AP exams, with 114 students earning college credit across all our AP class offerings.  The majority of students in these classes earned college credit with high scores, including in AP Biology, Environmental Science, Language, Literature & Composition, Seminar, and US History.

“Central Catholic’s Advanced Placement program continues to lead the area in accessibility to students, highly qualified and decorated teachers, and innovation in courses and instructional methods,” said former Principal Morgan (Delp) Connors (Class of 2011).  “Most of our students earned college credit through our program, with record-high pass rates in several difficult courses (like AP Literature & Composition and AP Biology).  I am proud of our students and teachers, and of our supportive families!”

“Our students’ success on the AP tests is a direct result of consistent, engaging classroom instruction across all departments and their dedication to preparation,” said alumnus Logan Lorenzen (Class of 2012), AP Seminar teacher.  “The collaborative effort among teachers and the high academic standards at our school create an environment where students can thrive.”

Ryan Dempsey, an incoming senior, received college credit in three different subjects because of his success on the AP exams.  “When we first started classes at the beginning of the year, the teachers began preparing us for the AP exams right away, and they continued teaching us important information throughout the year,” he said.  “When it was time to take these exams, I didn’t feel stressed out.  I felt confident because I had been learning about the subjects the entire year and had plenty of time to learn and study the material in class.”

“I think one of the reasons my students performed well on test day is because of our commitment to reading full texts - multiple whole novels, short stories, and poems - and enjoying critical discussions about our reading throughout the year,” said Angela Mills, AP Literature & Composition teacher.  “They applied their ability to cultivate a good conversation about texts on test day.”

Central Catholic’s AP US History class had its highest passing rate ever for the AP test, and the school offers this class to sophomores rather than upperclassmen, which is unusual for an AP class.  “I am so proud of my students for their perseverance throughout this year,” said Mallory Lenhart, AP US History teacher.  “I think so much of my sophomores' success came from their genuine interest in the content.  With each practice exercise we did, their skills improved, and so much of mastering the class is knowing that you have the knowledge and the AP skills.”

The first day of classes for the 2025-26 school year will take place on Wednesday, August 20.
