Fighting Irish Trio Collect Division III All-Ohio Laurels

Three members of the Central Catholic boys’ basketball team have earned Division III All-Ohio recognition, as announced Thursday by the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association (OPSMA).  Senior Manny Johnson was named First-Team All-Ohio, while senior Kaeden Carruthers and junior Cayden Kynard received Honorable Mention All-Ohio honors.

Johnson becomes just the fifth player in program history to earn First Team All-Ohio recognition and the first since his brother, Chico Johnson ’23, in 2021–22.  A three-year letterwinner, Johnson averaged 14.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 2.7 steals per game, earning Division III OHSBCA Player of the Year honors while scoring in double figures 21 times.

Carruthers, a 6-foot-7 forward, contributed 8.9 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game, recording 12 double-digit scoring games and nine double-digit rebounding performances.

Kynard, a 6-foot guard, led the team in scoring with 15.5 points per game while adding 3.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists, reaching double figures 22 times, including six 20-point outings.

This standout trio helped lead the Fighting Irish to a school-record 23 wins, a Division III Regional Championship, and the program’s first State Final Four appearance since 2011.

All-Ohio teams are selected through nominations and voting by media members across the state’s seven districts and are based on regular-season performance.
