Girls’ Basketball Cruises Past NLL Power Perrysburg at Home, 53-36
The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team turned in a dominant performance Thursday, rolling past Perrysburg 53–36 in the Sullivan Center. With the emphatic home victory over the Northern Lakes League foe, the Fighting Irish improved to 12–6 overall and continued their strong late-season surge.
CCHS set the tone early, jumping out to a commanding 32–13 halftime lead and never allowing the visiting Yellow Jackets to gain momentum
Senior leaders Marissa Justen, Serinity Bolden, and Nina Stevens powered the Scarlet & Gray, combining to spark the host Irish to their ninth win in the last 10 games.
Justen led all scorers with 19 points, followed by 15 points from Bolden and 11 from Stevens. The trio did much of their damage from long range, accounting for eight of the team’s nine three-pointers, including a game-high four triples by Justen, who has now knocked down 10 three-pointers over the last two games.
Perrysburg was led by Addy Byrne, who finished with 11 points.
Earlier in the evening, the CCHS freshman team earned a 32–11 victory, while the junior varsity squad dropped a 35–21 decision.
Central Catholic returns to action Monday, February 2, when the Fighting Irish host league rival St. Ursula Academy in a key Catholic High School League matchup on Cherry Street. The junior varsity game tips off at 5 p.m., followed immediately by the varsity contest.
