Girls’ Basketball Tops Father Gabriel Richard at Home, 47–41
The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team earned a measure of redemption on Wednesday, defeating Father Gabriel Richard 47–41 in the Sullivan Center.
The victory avenged a 33–26 loss to FGR earlier this season on December 12 in Ann Arbor and improved the Fighting Irish to 11–6 overall and 4–3 in the Catholic High School League.
Senior guard Marissa Justen led the Scarlet & Gray with a season-high 22 points, knocking down six three-pointers. Her previous season best was 17 points against Lumen Christi Catholic on January 7.
Fellow senior guard Serinity Bolden added 13 points, while senior guard Nina Stevens chipped in eight, as Central Catholic recorded its eighth win in the last nine contests.
Father Gabriel Richard was led by Vanessa Rodriguez, who finished with a game-high 18 points.
Earlier in the evening, the CCHS junior varsity team earned a 27–13 home victory over FGR.
Central Catholic returns to action Thursday, January 29, when the Fighting Irish host Perrysburg in a key non-conference matchup in the Sullivan Center. The freshman game tips off at 4:30 p.m. on Cherry Street, followed immediately by the junior varsity and varsity contests.
