Football Hammers River Rouge in Non-League Matchup, 35-13

The Central Catholic football team hammered River Rouge, 35-13, in non-conference action on Friday in Panther Stadium.  With the dominating road win, CCHS improves to 3-3 on the season.

The Fighting Irish posted a commanding 568-128 advantage in total yards and a 28-6 edge in 1st downs vs. the Panthers to help them even their overall record after 6 games.

The 2-headed monster of senior RB Anthony Sylvester and junior RB Jeremiah Fuller fueled the way offensively with 117 and 116 yards on the ground, respectively.  Sylvester found the end zone for the 4th time in the last 5 contests with a 3-yard TD run, while Fuller registered a 1-yard TD plunge.

In addition, junior QB Ali Beydoun completed 3-of-11 passes for 108 yards, including a 95-yard TD strike to senior Victor Singleton, Jr.  Beydoun was also credited with a 12-yard TD scamper.

CCHS will return to action against rival St. John’s Jesuit on Friday, October 3.  The opening kick against the Titans is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Lyden Field.

Last fall, Central Catholic defeated SJJ, 56-21, at home.  The Fighting Irish tallied points on their 1st 6 possessions en route to registering their 10th-straight victory in the series.

Fuller paced CCHS with 3 TDs in the 1st half, followed closely by 2 scores from RB Tyler Morgan.  They also benefitted from fumble returns for scores from DL Curtis Strode, Jr. and LB Michael Besteda to force a running clock in the 2nd half.

Not to be overlooked by a strong running game and a stout defense, Central Catholic QB Isaiah Fox completed an efficient 12-of-13 passes for 235 yards and 2 TDs.
