Football Defeats Rival St. John’s Jesuit at Home, 45-14

TOLEDO, OH - The Central Catholic football team continued its strong start to Catholic High School League play with a convincing 45-14 victory over rival St. John’s Jesuit on Friday night at Gallagher Stadium. With the home victory, the Fighting Irish improve to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the CHSL, while earning their 12th consecutive victory over the Titans.

Central Catholic took control early, building a commanding 31-0 halftime advantage and never looking back.

Sophomore quarterback Lincoln Sellers completed 8-of-14 passes, including a 55-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver David Yarbrough and a 33-yard scoring strike to sophomore wide receiver Robert Douglas III.

Senior running back Jeremiah Fuller once again powered the Fighting Irish ground attack, rushing for 108 yards on 13 carries with three touchdowns. Fuller scored on a pair of one-yard runs during the first half as Central Catholic built a lead large enough to institute a running clock for the final 24 minutes.

Junior kicker Mason Huntebrinker provided the final points of the opening half, connecting on a 29-yard field goal to send the Fighting Irish into the locker room with a 31-0 advantage.

Fuller found the end zone for the third time to open the second-half scoring before junior defensive back De’Quane Roscoe Jr. put an exclamation point on the victory with a 60-yard interception return for a touchdown to close out the Fighting Irish scoring.

Central Catholic will return to the gridiron on Friday, September 25, when the Fighting Irish face Lumen Christi Catholic. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Crowley Stadium.
