Get to Know CCHS Staffulty Member - Richard Kinney
- What subjects and grade levels do you teach?
I teach theology to freshmen and sophomores.
- What is your educational background?
I graduated from Ida High School in 1999, Cedarville University in 2003 with a BA in Biology, and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in 2006 with a Master's of Divinity.
- What did you do before joining the CCHS staffulty?
For the last 13 years, I was the pastor of Highland Presbyterian Church in New Castle, PA.
- What inspired you to become a teacher?
I left Protestantism to become Catholic, and being married, I could not be a priest, so I needed to find a new profession. I am so thankful to have a job where I can teach the Bible. Although I will no longer be preaching the Bible in church, I will be teaching the Bible in the classroom.
- What made you want to teach at Central Catholic specifically?
I wanted to have a job where I could be outspoken about God and build up the Catholic Church.
- What do you hope your impact will be on your students?
I want my students to learn more about God and grow in their relationship with Him. I hope they become so familiar with the Bible that they will begin to read the Bible on their own. I hope my theology classes inspire students to become more involved in God's Church. I hope my theology class connects the church with the school.
- What are your hobbies or interests outside of work?
I love the Church and want to be as involved in parish life as I can be. I also have a wife and five children. I love spending time with them and supporting their various activities.
