5 Fighting Irish Earn NWCA Character & Leadership All-American Honors

Five members of the Central Catholic wrestling team have been named recipients of the High School Character & Leadership All-American Award, according to the National Wrestling Coaches Association.

Junior Roberto Alvarado, Jr., senior Richone Brown, Jr., senior Anthony Clark, Jr., senior Emilio Herrera, and senior Jayvn Knannlein were the Fighting Irish who earned this prestigious honor.  They were among 1,136 student-athletes recognized by the NWCA.

Now in its 7th year, this award recognizes high school juniors and seniors who exemplify the core values of Dependability, Judgment, Endurance, Initiative, Tact, Integrity, Unselfishness, Loyalty, and Courage—the pillars of strong character and effective leadership both on and off the mat.

"These young men and women have shown exceptional leadership and character throughout their high school careers," said Mike Moyer, NWCA Executive Director. "Their dedication to these values is what we need in sports and society. We're incredibly proud to recognize them as NWCA High School Character & Leadership All-Americans."

This past winter, Herrera placed runner-up at 120 pounds at the OHSAA Division II Sectional Championship.
