Central Catholic Students & Staffulty to be Fully Initiated into Catholic Church
At Central Catholic, our Catholic identity is part of everything we do. We partner with students, staff, and families to provide many opportunities for faith formation and spiritual wellness, including the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA). Our campus ministry leaders can guide students through this process of instruction, prayer, and community involvement culminating in the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist, leading to full membership and participation in the Catholic faith.
This Easter season, Central Catholic is excited to share that several of our students are catechumen candidates who are becoming fully Catholic, and other students, as well as one of our teachers, are seeking to complete their sacraments of initiation.
Twin sisters Angelina and Selena Aldaco, juniors at Central Catholic, are catechumens who have been learning about Catholic teachings, traditions, and practices in preparation for the sacraments of Baptism, Holy Eucharist, and Confirmation. Their preparation will culminate in their initiation into the Catholic church at the Easter Vigil Mass at Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral on Holy Saturday evening.
“I have been experiencing the faith and love of Jesus as a student at Central Catholic through the witness of other students, teachers, and Fr. Kevin Moebius (Priest Leader),” Angelina said. “I want to become a full member of this welcoming and positive community.”
“Going to Mass at Central Catholic, taking theology classes, and being a part of campus ministry made me hungry to receive God through the Eucharist,” said Selena. “I feel drawn to the community and welcomed by the Catholic faith, which strengthened my desire to participate more fully.”
Senior Levelle Stokes III is also a catechumen who will join the Catholic church on Holy Saturday at Rosary Cathedral. “For me, it was a calling,” he explained. “I was doing some things that weren’t good for me, and I kept feeling my faith calling me. Going to Mass at Central Catholic showed me the depth of the bible and the church. I’ve been guided by my theology teachers and campus ministry to better understand my faith, and my family has been very supportive of my journey.”
Freshman Caden Kramp was raised in the Catholic church and had already been baptized and made his first Holy Communion, but he hadn’t had the opportunity to be confirmed. “My classes and teachers here made me want to complete my sacraments,” he said. “I wanted to get closer to Jesus.” Caden prepared for his sacrament at Central Catholic, and he was confirmed at St. Joseph Parish in Sylvania on March 23 and is now fully Catholic.
Tye Turner, Central Catholic science and math teacher, was previously baptized and is preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation through the Catholic church. “My wife and daughter are both Catholic, and we have been attending Catholic Masses together for 18 years,” he explained. “I wanted the experience of faith to be a family thing. I approached our campus ministry department, and they asked me probing questions and realized I was ready, and they asked if I wanted to join the church.”
“We are just reaping the rewards of the work that Central Catholic’s teachers have been doing in the classrooms,” said Campus Minister, Anna Walker. “They have been helping our students strengthen their understanding of their faith and develop a sense of belonging, of who they are and their place in the world.”
The following students have also been undergoing preparation at Central Catholic to become fully initiated into the Catholic church, and several others are becoming Catholic in their own parishes. Students, families, alumni, and friends are welcome to attend the Holy Saturday Mass at Rosary Cathedral or any of the other Masses to support our students!
