Benjamin Mackowiak Selected Student of the Month for September
TOLEDO, OH - Senior Benjamin Mackowiak is a member of the National Honor Society, Campus Ministry, Sideline Spirit, and the boys’ tennis team. He is also an Irish Ambassador. Outside of school, he works in the bag room at the Toledo Country Club golf course.
“I chose Central Catholic because I had many family members come here and I love how close the community here is,” Ben said. His brother Mark Mackowiak graduated from CCHS in 2024. His mother Ellen (Best) Mackowiak and father Matt Mackowiak are 1998 graduates. His grandparents Bob Mackowiak ’70, John Best ’68, and Charlotte (Zielinski) Best ’67 also attended Central Catholic, and Charlotte was an English teacher at CCHS for 46 years.
“Ben always comes into class with a positive attitude, ready to learn,” said Patrice Brock, science teacher. “He adds great energy to the room! Around campus, he is a willing volunteer - often helping before he is asked. He exemplifies what it means to be Irish!”
“Ben attacks every day with a positive attitude and is always encouraging his peers!” said Tyler Sibbersen, physics teacher. “He has a great work ethic that, when paired with his leadership abilities and character, really add value to any class or group that he is in! Proud of Ben and the work he's put in.”
“Ben is the model of consistency you want every student to be,” added math teacher, Max Alm. “He's consistently prepared, responsible, respectful, and an active participant. It's hard to find students that do all of these things well and I'm privileged to have Ben in class.”
“Ben represents the Irish Spirit to its fullest!” said psychology teacher, Hannah Bluhm ’17. “Having Ben for AP Psychology this year has been amazing. He is a great student and classmate, and he always brings a positive energy for whatever task is given to him. Ben is also a Core Team Member for Sideline Spirit and has been an important part in our club's operation this year! Ben and fellow senior, Danni Witcher, have brought Cherry Channel News back to life, and they have done an amazing job leading the student section each week so far this season. He also played an amazing Joker in the latest Sideline Spirit video!”
Ben plans to attend the University of Toledo to study nursing and cardiology. He would like to be a firefighter after college.
