Boys’ Basketball Head Coach Mike Floyd Resigns to Pursue College Coaching Opportunity
Central Catholic High School has announced that boys’ basketball head coach Mike Floyd has resigned from his position to pursue a college coaching opportunity.
Floyd concludes an impactful eight-year tenure on Cherry Street in which he guided the Fighting Irish to a 125–71 overall record, ranking fourth in program history in total victories. His leadership helped produce consistent success, including three 20-win seasons, multiple district championships, and a league title.
During the 2025–26 season, Floyd led Central Catholic to a 23–4 record and a Division III Regional Championship, advancing the program to the OHSAA State Final Four for the first time since 2011.
“Coach Floyd has made a lasting impact on our basketball program and school community,” said Head of School, Kevin Parkins. “We are grateful for his dedication to our student-athletes and for the competitive excellence he helped build. We wish him continued success at his next stop.”
Throughout his time at Central Catholic, Floyd earned numerous coaching honors, including Division III All-Northwest District Coach of the Year (2025–26), Division III All-District VII Coach of the Year (2025–26), and TRAC Coach of the Year (2022–23).
“The past eight years at Central Catholic have been an incredible journey,” said Floyd. “I’m proud of everything this program has accomplished and the foundation we’ve built for the future of Irish basketball. I want to thank my coaching staff, the Central Catholic administration, and Irish Nation for their unwavering support. Most importantly, I am grateful to the players who helped shape this program into what it is today. Your hard work, dedication, and heart have defined our success.
Always carry with you the three pillars that define our team — Toughness. Trust. Selflessness. Be proud of what you built here and remember this is more than a program — it is a standard you will carry for life.
This next step is bittersweet, but I leave confident the best is still ahead for Central Catholic basketball. Go Irish!”
A search for Central Catholic’s next boys’ basketball head coach will begin immediately.
