Boys’ Basketball Dominates Second Half, Takes Down Rival St. Francis de Sales, 63–51

The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team delivered a statement victory on Tuesday night, pulling away from arch-rival St. Francis de Sales for a 63–51 CHSL road win inside a packed and hostile Pit.  The loss snapped the Knights’ four-game winning streak, while the Fighting Irish improved to 7–2 overall and 4–1 in Catholic High School League play.

After entering halftime trailing by one, CCHS flipped the script with a decisive 21–6 third-quarter surge, turning a tight contest into a commanding advantage heading into the final period.

Junior G Jordan Langford powered the Scarlet & Gray with a season-high 21 points, showcasing a hot hand from deep by burying a game-best four three-pointers.

Senior G Manny Johnson followed with 14 points, while a balanced effort saw junior G Cayden Kynard (12), senior F Kaeden Carruthers (9), and junior G Jason Lawson Jr. (7) all contribute in the rivalry win.

St. Francis de Sales (6-3, 1-2 CHSL) was led by Alan Horton, who finished with 23 points, while Chris Poellnitz added 14 for the host Knights.

Earlier in the evening, Central Catholic enjoyed a clean sweep on the road, as the freshman team earned a 45–30 victory and the junior varsity squad secured a hard-fought 50–46 win.

The Fighting Irish return to action on Friday, January 16, when they travel to face cross-town rival St. John’s Jesuit in the Titan Dome.  The freshman game tips off at 4:15 p.m., followed by the junior varsity and varsity contests.  Central Catholic previously earned a 70–56 victory over the Titans on December 23 in the Sullivan Center.  Friday’s varsity matchup will be broadcast LIVE on 100.7 FM (The Ticket) beginning at 6:15 p.m.  Click HERE to purchase tickets.
