Boys’ Basketball Runs Away from Rival St. John’s Jesuit at Home, 70-56

The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team earned an impressive 70–56 victory over rival St. John’s Jesuit on Tuesday night in the Sullivan Center.  With the home win, the Fighting Irish improve to 2–1 overall and 2–1 in the Catholic High School League (CHSL).

CCHS set the tone early, jumping out to a 32–21 halftime lead against the previously unbeaten Titans (6–1, 2–1 CHSL).  The Scarlet & Gray maintained its intensity after the break, pulling away in the second half to secure the 14-point win.

Senior G Manny Johnson delivered a standout performance, scoring a season-high 25 points while adding 14 rebounds and seven assists, narrowly missing a triple-double. The Fighting Irish also received balanced scoring from junior G Cayden Kynard (14 points) and junior G Jordan Langford (13 points), along with senior F Kaeden Carruthers, who contributed 10 points.

St. John’s Jesuit was led by Race Kowalczyk with 18 points, followed by Ethan James (16 points) and Coy Hamic (13 points).

Earlier in the evening, the Central Catholic freshman team fell in a close 30-29 contest, while the junior varsity squad earned a 54-49 victory.

Central Catholic returns to action on Saturday, December 27, when the Fighting Irish face Spencerville as part of the Coach Q Classic on the campus of Lima Senior High School.  The junior varsity game tips off at 3:30 p.m., followed immediately by the varsity matchup.
