Central Catholic Commences 2025-26 Season with Strong Showing at Derr Memorial Tournament
The Central Catholic wrestling program launched its 2025–26 season with an impressive team performance at the Derr Memorial Tournament, finishing 5th out of 24 teams and earning 169 points at the annual event hosted by Northwood High School. Woodmore captured the team title with 337.5 points.
Junior Brendan Zapadka led the way for the Fighting Irish, turning in a dominant 8–0 weekend to capture the 113-pound championship.
Three additional wrestlers secured Top 4 finishes:
Senior Luke Andrews — 2nd place (165)
Junior Alex Guerra — 3rd place (138)
Junior Joel Osbourne — 4th place (150)
The Fighting Irish were also honored with the DMWT Sportsmanship Award, recognizing the team’s character and conduct — a reflection of Central Catholic’s mission to develop leaders grounded in respect and integrity.
In freshman competition at the Maumee Tournament, six wrestlers finished in the Top 3, highlighted by runner-up results from John Algee V (113), Cameron Katafiasz (132), Richard Urbanski III (190), and Ra’Sean Warren (Heavyweight).
The program will return to the mat on Saturday, December 20, at the Ray Steel Tournament hosted by Rogers High School.
