Central Catholic Earns ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award for 6th-Straight Season

Central Catholic has earned the 2024-25 America Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award.

The Fighting Irish are receiving this prestigious accolade for the 6th-straight season.  The Scarlet & Gray is one of only 17 high schools recognized in the state of Ohio.  Overall, nearly 300 high school programs and more than 440 collegiate programs were chosen with this year’s award, which is presented by Sports Attack.

Teams from high school and every level of college baseball were honored with this year’s award, which highlights programs coached by ABCA members that posted a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale for the entire 2024-25 academic year.

The American Baseball Coaches Association has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation's oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA's awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/ATEC Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and the Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award.

This past spring, CCHS posted a 6-18 overall record under the direction of Head Coach Jeff Mielcarek.  Individually, senior Beau Gardner earned All-Catholic laurels, junior Draden Wardrop was named All-League, and senior Camdyn Ditmyer garnered All-Academic honors.
