Central Catholic Hires Tory Wood as Girls’ Volleyball Coach

Central Catholic High School has announced the hiring of Tory Wood as its new head girls’ volleyball coach, Director of Athletics Greg Dempsey ’90 announced today.

Wood brings a diverse background in coaching, leadership, operations, and athlete development to the volleyball program.  Her experience spans the youth, middle school, high school, and collegiate club levels, where she has developed a reputation for building strong team culture, fostering player growth, and creating competitive environments centered on accountability and teamwork.

“We are excited to welcome Tory to our Irish Family,” said Dempsey.  “Her passion for developing student-athletes, commitment to building a positive culture, and strong leadership background make her a tremendous fit for our volleyball program and school community.  We look forward to the future of Central Catholic volleyball under her leadership.”

Wood currently serves as League Director and Coach for Toledo Volleyball Club, where she oversees scheduling, communication, league operations, and program coordination while working closely with athletes, coaches, families, and club leadership to create a positive and competitive experience for players.

In addition, Wood previously coached within Perrysburg Schools, assisting in athlete development and team instruction while helping establish a competitive and encouraging environment for student-athletes.  She also served as Head Coach for the Bowling Green State University Men’s Club Volleyball Team, where she organized practices, match preparation, and player development plans.

Wood earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from Lourdes University.

Wood said her coaching philosophy centers around accountability, consistency, communication, and creating a positive culture where athletes are challenged to grow both individually and collectively.

“I believe successful programs are built through accountability, consistency, communication, and positive culture,” Wood said.  “Athletes perform their best when they are challenged in a competitive environment while still enjoying the process and developing confidence in themselves and their teammates.  I believe high standards, daily effort, and discipline are essential to building both successful teams and strong individuals.”

“Beyond wins and losses, I want players to leave the program with greater confidence, resilience, and a strong understanding of what it means to work for one another as a team,” she added.

Wood said she is eager to begin building the future of Central Catholic volleyball.

“I want this program to be known for being team-minded and tough,” Wood said.  “We are going to make every set difficult.  We want opponents to be worried that they are playing the Irish.  Our players will have spirit, and they will be ready to compete.

“I believe in this program.  I’m ready to hit the ground running, and I’m so excited to get started.”
