Central Catholic to Present This Murder Was Staged  in November at Historic Ohio Theatre

Central Catholic High School’s Drama Club will present the play, This Murder Was Staged, on Saturday, November 22 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, November 23 at 1 p.m. at the Historic Ohio Theatre (3112 LaGrange St).  Tickets are $12 each and can be purchased at CentralCatholic.org/tickets.

The Ohio Theatre is undergoing some very exciting renovations, so the facade of the building is under construction.  Students will be outside directing patrons where to enter the building.  Important parking information can be found at https://historicohiotheatre.org/visiting-the-ohio-theatre/.

The play, written by Jason Greene and John Pizarello, is a show within a show.  It’s opening night of a brand-new mystery play, but just as the killer is about to be revealed, the body of the play’s director falls on stage instead.  In that moment, the theater becomes an active crime scene, and everyone from cast to crew, and even the audience, becomes a suspect.  But how is the intrepid detective supposed to find the killer when everyone and their mother (literally) had a motive to want the demanding director gone?

“The Drama Club students expressed a strong desire to perform a comedy this season,” said Angela Mills, English teacher and Drama Club moderator.  “This Murder Was Staged is a fast-paced, family-friendly farce that is going to hone their comedic acting skills and provide an excellent evening of entertainment for the audience!  It's also worth coming to both shows because students will perform two different endings - one on Saturday night and one on Sunday afternoon.”

Junior Madeleine Robinson plays the character Keira Gimbal.  “She is the leading lady, who is the typical cold, sassy, and totally over-it starring actress,” Madeleine explained.  “She has the first line that kicks off the funny, witty, and shocking performance.  I believe this will be our best play yet!  It's silly and fun, and there is so much audience participation.  We have been working so hard and we would love to entertain you!  The lovely cast and crew are truly all stars, and I would deeply encourage you to give them their chance to shine.”

Junior Mykailah Welborn portrays a goofy character named Thornton Jackson.  In the show within the show, Thornton plays Dash McCain, who is much more on the cool side.  “Thornton could definitely be described as the comic relief of the story, but he really ties things together with his insanely stupid questions and badly timed actions, which make him a great watch,” Mykailah said.  “I also play a very recognizable character with a yellow shirt with a black zigzag.  You could also say he has a very interesting beagle.  This show is thrilling, funny, and unpredictable, and it keeps you guessing until the very end.  Every scene is packed with energy, mystery, and a few surprises that will leave the audience laughing one moment and gasping the next.  Plus, our cast and crew have worked so hard to bring these characters to life.  It's a mystery you don't want to miss!”
