Danni Witcher Named Student of the Month for August

At Central Catholic, senior Danni Witcher is involved in a variety of activities that have helped her grow both as a student and as a person.  She plays basketball and lacrosse, and she is an Irish Ambassador, a member of the African American Club, Sideline Spirit, Student Council, and W.I.S.E. Club.  She also serves as the Service Secretary for the National Honor Society and is a member of Glee Club.  She currently has a 4.3 GPA and has completed 237 service hours.  Being involved in so many different activities has taught Danni the importance of leadership, teamwork, service, and being there for others.

“Danni is a great choice for Student of the Month,” said Patrice Brock, Science teacher.  “She has a great presence in the classroom.  Danni brings positive energy and a strong desire to learn to every class.  She is also a great classmate, supporting and encouraging her fellow Irish in class, the hallways, and in their activities.  Danni is a blessing to our campus.”

“Danni is a dedicated member of the Irish community,” said Hannah Bluhm, psychology and sociology teacher and Sideline Spirit moderator.  “I get to work with Danni this year as she is a new Core Team member of Sideline Spirit.  She has brought so many ideas and a new energy to the club this year!  Danni and fellow senior Ben Mackowiak have taken over the Cherry Channel this year and have so much enthusiasm and are ready to take the Irish News to the next level!  Danni is also in my AP Psychology class this year, and I'm so excited to see her excel in the classroom as well as lead the student section each week!”

Outside of school, Danni focuses on spending time with her family and being involved in the community.  She enjoys staying active through sports and finding ways to help others whenever she can.  Service has become especially important to her because she enjoys making a positive difference in the lives of the people around her.

“I chose Central Catholic because it was the only school that truly felt like a family to me,” Danni said.  “At Discovery Days and Irish for a Day, I always felt welcomed and knew it was the place for me.  Central Catholic has taught me that it is okay to have bad days, but what matters most is how you come back from them.  My experience here has helped me become more confident, hardworking, and willing to push through challenges.

“One person who has had a major impact on me is Mr. Martin.  Since freshman year, he has felt more like family than just a teacher.  I know I can go to him about anything, and he always tells me what I need to hear, not just what I want to hear.  Even when he is no longer my teacher, he makes sure I know I have someone to talk to.  I am truly grateful for his support and the relationship we have built.”

After high school, Danni plans to attend college and pursue a career as an athletic trainer.  She’s considering a few colleges but hasn't made a final decision yet.  She wants to continue working with athletes and eventually have a career where she can help people reach their goals and recover from challenges.

“I want to thank my parents for making me the person I am today and for always believing in me,” Danni added.  “They have supported me through everything and have always pushed me to be the best version of myself.  Without them, I truly do not know where I would be, and I appreciate everything they have done for me more than I can put into words.”
