Fighting Irish Compete at OHSAA Division III State Championships
The Central Catholic boys’ track & field team concluded an outstanding season by competing at the OHSAA Division III State Championships on Friday and Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University.
Leading the way for the Fighting Irish was sophomore standout Khary Carson II, who earned All-Ohio honors in two individual events. Carson placed sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.04 and followed that performance with a seventh-place finish in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in 22.35.
Carson also helped guide Central Catholic’s 4x200-meter relay team to an All-Ohio finish. The quartet of junior Alex White, sophomore Michael Luther, senior Jerome Davis V, and Carson placed seventh in the state with a time of 1:29.02.
The Fighting Irish were represented in two additional events during the state meet. On Friday, junior Billy Williams, Jr. competed in the 110-meter hurdles after qualifying through a strong postseason run that included a fourth-place finish at the regional meet. Central Catholic also qualified for the 4x100-meter relay, featuring freshman Austin Wade, Jerome Davis V, Alex White, and Carson, which earned a spot among the state's elite relay teams.
The state championship appearance capped a remarkable postseason for the Fighting Irish. Central Catholic advanced five events to the state meet after an impressive showing at the D-III Regional Championships in Piqua, where the team finished fourth overall.
Carson enjoyed one of the most successful seasons in recent program history, qualifying for the state championships in four events while capturing regional championships in both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Williams, the 4x100 relay, and the 4x200 relay all added state-qualifying performances, showcasing the depth and talent of the Fighting Irish squad.
