Fighting Irish Set for OHSAA Division III State Track & Field Championships

The Central Catholic boys’ track & field team will compete at the OHSAA Division III State Championships on Friday and Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University.

The Fighting Irish are coming off an impressive showing at the D-III Regional Championships in Piqua, where they finished fourth in the team standings with 35 points and qualified athletes in five events for the state meet.

Sophomore Khary Carson II will lead the Scarlet & Gray after earning qualification in four events.  Carson captured regional championships in both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash, posting winning times of 10.68 and 21.72, respectively. His performance continued an outstanding postseason run that has established him as one of the premier sprinters in Division III.

In addition to his individual success, Carson helped propel two relay teams to state-qualifying performances.  The 4x100-meter relay team of freshman Austin Wade, senior Jerome Davis V, junior Alex White, and Carson secured a fourth-place finish at the regional meet with a time of 43.11.  The 4x200-meter relay team of White, sophomore Michael Luther, Davis V, and Carson also advanced to state after placing fourth in 1:28.93.

Junior Billy Williams, Jr. earned the Fighting Irish's fifth state berth with a fourth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles. Williams crossed the finish line in 15.03 to secure his spot among the state's top competitors.

Competition begins Friday with preliminary races, with qualifiers advancing to Saturday evening's championship finals.  Complete results throughout the meet can be found on the OHSAA website (ohsaa.org/sports/track).
