Football Begins 2025 Season vs. Walsh Jesuit on Friday at Home

The Central Catholic football team will kick off its 2025 campaign against Walsh Jesuit on Friday, August 22.  Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Gallagher Stadium. 

Friday’s non-conference matchup has been designated as the “BCSN Game of the Week” and will feature “GameDay Tailgate.”  Click HERE for a complete list of Game Day Information, including directions, code of conduct, and parking. Under the direction of 26th-year Head Coach Greg Dempsey, the Scarlet & Gray will be led this fall by senior captains – LB Gavin Eckhart, WR Preston Fryzel, OL Kevon Harrison, and OL/DL Zaneje Liggons.

Central Catholic has been picked to finish 2nd in the Central Division in the Catholic High School League (CHSL) in a vote by the conference’s head coaches.  CCHS trailed only Detroit Catholic Central in the 6-team division preseason poll. 

The CHSL, which was founded in 1926, is the largest Catholic high school league in the United States with 33 private-school members from around southeastern Michigan and Toledo’s 5 Catholic high schools.

In 2024, the Fighting Irish advanced to the OHSAA state championship game for the 3rd straight year.  CCHS posted a 14-2 overall record, including a 5-1 ledger in the CHSL, and made its 21st-straight playoff appearance. 

Central Catholic will face a Walsh Jesuit squad that tallied a 13-1 ledger in 2024 and advanced to the 4th round of the D-II state playoffs.  The Warriors are coached by Nicholas Alexander.  The 2 schools will meet on the gridiron for the 1st time. 

CCHS will return to the gridiron against Cass Tech on Friday, August 29 as part of the 20th edition of the Amazon Prep Kickoff Classic.  In a matchup of Detroit PSL & CHSL schools, the 7 p.m. contest will take place at Tom Adams Field on the campus of Wayne State University. 

Central Catholic will square off against the Technicians for the 2nd time in the last 3 seasons. CCHS secured a 48-23 victory vs. Cass Tech in the 51st-annual Prep Bowl on October 21, 2023. at Ford Field.  The Scarlet & Gray outscored CT 20-0 in the 2nd half of the “Goodfellows Game” in downtown Detroit.

Running back Marquan Braswell led the Fighting Irish offensively with a season-tying best 4 TDs on the ground. Braswell, who finished with 141 yards on 28 carries, found the end zone on 3 occasions in the 1st half. CCHS also benefited from 2 TDs by WR Jaylen Watson to snap the Technicians’ 6-game winning streak. Watson had 4 catches for 119 yards in the neutral-field game.
