Gavin Eckhart, Preston Fryzel, Kevon Harrison, & Zenaje Liggons Chosen Football Captains
Senior LB Gavin Eckhart, senior WR Preston Fryzel, senior OL Kevon Harrison, and senior OL/DL Zenaje Liggons have been named captains for the Central Catholic football team, 26th-year head coach Greg Dempsey recently announced. The quartet was selected based on votes by their teammates.
“I think our team made outstanding choices for captains,” Dempsey said. “We consider our seniors as the leaders in the program, and a season will go as well as your seniors’ lead. Gavin, Preston, Kevon, and Zenaje have all shown their teammates that they exhibit the qualities that they believe a captain should possess to be a captain for our program.”
Last fall, Liggons collected 2nd-team All-Ohio laurels, while Fryzel secured honorable mention accolades. Liggons was part of an offensive line that helped CCHS average 31.0 points and 340.9 yards per game. Fryzel posted 43 catches for 807 yards and 10 TDs. He led the squad in all 3 categories. He finished tied for the 5th-most scores and 6th in receiving yards in school annals.
Central Catholic was recently picked to finish 2nd in the Central Division in the Catholic High School League (CHSL) in a vote by the conference’s head coaches. CCHS trailed only Detroit Catholic Central in the 6-team division preseason poll.
In 2024, the Fighting Irish advanced to the OHSAA state championship game for the 3rd straight year. CCHS posted a 14-2 overall record, including a 5-1 ledger in the CHSL, and made its 21st-straight playoff appearance.
CCHS will kick off its 2025 campaign vs. Walsh Jesuit on Friday, August 22 at 7 p.m. in Gallagher Stadium. Season tickets are currently on sale at CentralCatholic.org/tickets.
