Football Looks to Stay Red Hot at River Rouge in Friday’s Non-League Matchup
The Central Catholic football team will look to continue its strong play as of late against River Rouge on Friday, September 26. The opening kick against the Panthers is slated for 7 p.m. in Panther Stadium.

The Fighting Irish have posted back-to-back victories, most recently securing a 35-6 triumph vs. De La Salle Collegiate as part of Homecoming Weekend in Gallagher Stadium. CCHS (2-3, 2-1 CHLS) outgained DLSC, 322-175 and finished with a commanding 17-8 advantage in 1st downs.
The Scarlet & Gray scored 4 of its 5 TDs on the ground vs. the Pilots, paced by senior RB Anthony Sylvester with a pair of TDs.
Junior QB Ali Beydoun also completed 6-of-10 passes for 156 yards, including an 80-yard TD pass to junior RB Jeremiah Fuller on Central Catholic’s opening play from scrimmage. In addition to a strong performance through the air, Beydoun was CCHS’s leading rusher with 65 yards on 8 carries and 1 TD.
Overall this fall, Beydoun has connected on 57-of-91 passes (62.6 percent) for 575 yards and 4 TDs. Fuller has carried the ball 63 times for 301 yards with 3 scores, followed by Sylvester with 208 yards on 40 carries and a team-high 5 TDs. Beydoun’s favorite target has been senior WR Preston Fryzel with 13 receptions for 252 yards.
River Rouge (1-3), which competes in the Western Wayne Athletic Conference (WWAA) under the direction of Head Coach Jermain Crowell, is coming off a 45-8 loss vs. Brother Rice on Friday at home. The Fighting Irish and Panthers will meet on the gridiron for the 1st time.
Following Friday’s matchup, CCHS will return to action against rival St. John’s Jesuit on Friday, October 3. The opening kick against the Titans is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Lyden Field.
Last fall, Central Catholic defeated SJJ, 56-21, at home. The Fighting Irish found the end zone the 1st 6 times they touched the pigskin to register their 10th-straight victory in the series.
Fuller paced CCHS with 3 TDs in the 1st half, followed closely by 2 scores from RB Tyler Morgan. They also benefitted from fumble returns for scores from DL Curtis Strode, Jr. and LB Michael Besteda to force a running clock in the 2nd half.
Not to be overlooked by a strong running game and a stout defense, Central Catholic QB Isaiah Fox completed an efficient 12-of-13 passes for 235 yards and 2 TDs.
