Football Travels to Unbeaten Lumen Christi Catholic on Friday

JACKSON, MI - The Central Catholic football team will look to extend its winning streak to three games when the Fighting Irish travel to unbeaten Lumen Christi Catholic (5-0) on Friday, September 25.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Crowley Stadium.

In this week’s respective MaxPreps state rankings, the Fighting Irish check in at No. 6 in Ohio, while the Titans are ranked No. 24 in Michigan.

Friday’s matchup features two of the most decorated high school football programs in their respective states. The Fighting Irish have captured six state championships (1962, 2005, 2012, 2014, 2022, 2023), while Lumen Christi Catholic has won an MHSAA-record 15 state championships.

Central Catholic (4-1, 2-0 CHSL) enters Friday’s contest following a convincing 45-14 victory over rival St. John’s Jesuit (3-2, 0-2 CHSL) at Gallagher Stadium.

The Fighting Irish took control early, building a commanding 31-0 halftime advantage and never looking back en route to their 12th consecutive victory over the Titans.

Sophomore quarterback Lincoln Sellers completed 8-of-14 passes for a season-high 205 yards, including a 55-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver David Yharbrough and a 33-yard scoring strike to sophomore wide receiver Robert Douglas III.

Senior running back Jeremiah Fuller once again powered the Fighting Irish ground attack, rushing for 73 yards on 13 carries with three touchdowns.  Fuller scored on a pair of one-yard runs during the first half as Central Catholic built a lead large enough to institute a running clock for the final 24 minutes.

Fuller found the end zone for the third time to open the second-half scoring before junior defensive back De’Quane Roscoe Jr. put an exclamation point on the victory with a 60-yard interception return for a touchdown to close out the Fighting Irish scoring.

Through five games, Fuller leads the Central Catholic rushing attack with 464 yards on 73 carries, averaging 6.4 yards per attempt, while finding the end zone 14 times.  Sellers has completed 22-of-40 passes (55.0 percent) for 509 yards and five touchdowns.

Douglas leads the Fighting Irish with 12 receptions for 247 yards, followed by Yharbrough with 11 catches for 256 yards and senior Amari Eliano with nine receptions for 164 yards.

Lumen Christi Catholic enters Friday’s matchup unbeaten following a 40-10 victory over Father Gabriel Richard.  The Titans are led by 47th-year head coach Herb Brogan and carry a 13-game winning streak dating back to last season into Friday’s contest.

Lumen Christi capped the 2025 season by capturing the MHSAA Division 6 State Football Championship.

Following Friday’s matchup, Central Catholic will return to Catholic High School League action with a trip to Detroit Catholic Central on Saturday, October 3.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Fr. Richard Elmer, C.S.B. Stadium.
