Get to Know CCHS Staffulty Member - Luke Hickey
- What is your role at Central Catholic?
As an Academic and Student Support Specialist, my role is centered around supporting students academically and behaviorally to create a positive environment where students can be successful. I also serve as the head boys’ basketball coach.
- What is your educational background?
I graduated from Whitmer High School in 2013 and went on to attend Bluffton University, where I earned my bachelor's degree in special education. I hold a teaching license as an intervention specialist in grades K-12. I also have a master’s degree in educational leadership.
- What did you do before joining the CCHS staffulty?
Before coming to Central Catholic, I spent my career in education in a few different roles. I started at Bath High School in Lima directly after college. I was an intervention specialist there for two years as well as the JV baseball coach before moving to Lake High School in Millbury. Lake is where I spent the last seven years. I was an intervention specialist for three years, dean of students for four years, assistant baseball coach for three years, assistant basketball coach for three years, and head boys’ basketball coach for four years. All of these experiences have helped shape my passion for working with students and developing young people both on and off the court.
- What made you want to work at Central Catholic?
What attracted me to Central Catholic was the opportunity to be part of a school with such a strong tradition, identity, and sense of community. I would like to help build on that tradition and contribute to what comes next. I’m excited to be a part of a community where relationships matter, where students are held to high standards, and where the goal is to help young people become successful both during their time at Central Catholic and long after they leave.
- What do you hope to accomplish in your role at CCHS?
I want to make a positive impact on students and help them become the best versions of themselves. I want students and athletes to know that they are valued, supported, and capable of accomplishing more than they may sometimes believe. As the basketball coach, I want to continue building a program that represents the tradition and values of Central Catholic while developing young men to understand the importance of faith, excellence, accountability, selflessness, and toughness.
- What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
I enjoy golfing, spending time outdoors, and being with family and friends. I also enjoy following and studying basketball, whether that is watching games, learning from other coaches, or finding new ways to help our players and program improve. Athletics have always been a big part of my life, so I enjoy staying involved in sports even when I am not on the court.
