Girls’ Basketball Advances with 72-6 Win vs. Waite in Division III Sectional Final
The No. 1-seeded Central Catholic girls’ basketball team advanced in the Division III OHSAA State Tournament with a decisive 72-6 victory over No. 8 seed Waite on Thursday in the Sullivan Center. With the postseason win, the Fighting Irish improve to 14-8 on the season.
The Scarlet & Gray defense set the tone early, holding the Indians scoreless in both the first and fourth quarters en route to the 66-point victory.
Senior guard Marissa Justen led the offensive effort with 16 points, including four three-pointers. The 2025-26 CHSL All-League honoree was one of 12 players to score in a balanced team performance.
Senior guards Nina Stevens and Serinity Bolden added 12 and 10 points, respectively, as Central Catholic recorded its highest scoring output of the season. The Irish previously topped out at 56 points vs. Start on December 17.
Central Catholic returns to action on Tuesday, February 24, facing No. 3 seed Rogers in the district semifinals at Northwood High School. Rogers advanced with a 58-33 win over No. 6 seed Scott, powered by a 27-point performance from Millisia Martin.
