Girls’ Basketball Pulls Away in Second Half to Defeat Divine Child, 39–37
The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team put together a strong second-half performance to earn a hard-fought 39–37 road victory over Divine Child on Tuesday in the DCHS Gym. With the win, the Fighting Irish improve to 10–6 overall and 3–3 in the Catholic High School League.
Trailing at halftime, CCHS outscored the host Falcons 28–17 in the second half, using balanced scoring and defensive intensity to secure the two-point win in Dearborn.
Senior guards Marissa Justen and Serinity Bolden led the charge for the Scarlet & Gray, scoring 13 and 11 points, respectively. The duo was especially effective after the break, combining for 15 second-half points to fuel the Irish comeback.
Junior guard Madison Stricker added seven points, helping Central Catholic notch its seventh win in the last eight games.
Divine Child was led by Samantha Fuhs, who finished with a game-high 17 points, though she was limited to just six points in the second half.
Earlier in the evening, the CCHS freshman team fell 45–29, while the junior varsity squad dropped a 32–20 decision.
Central Catholic returns to action Wednesday, January 28, when the Fighting Irish host Father Gabriel Richard in the Sullivan Center. The junior varsity game tips off at 5 p.m., followed immediately by the varsity contest.
