Football Falls Short vs. OLSM on Road, 36-21

The Central Catholic football team sustained a 36-21 loss vs. St. Mary’s Preparatory on Friday at Milewski Field. With the road setback, CCHS falls to 4-4 overall, 3-2 in the Catholic High School League.

The Fighting Irish were outscored 26-7 in the 2nd half vs. the Eaglets (5-1 overall, 3-1 CHLS) to halt their 4-game winning streak.

CCHS benefited from 1-yard TD runs by junior RB Jeremiah Fuller and senior RB Anthony Sylvester to take a 14-10 advantage into halftime.

The Scarlet & Gray quickly extended its lead to 21-10 early in the 3rd quarter on the strength of an 8-yard TD pass from junior QB Ali Beydoun to senior WR Preston Fryzel,

Unfortunately for the Fighting Irish, they would not find the end zone again, while OLSM rattled off 26-straight points to snap Central Catholic’s win streak.

Individually, Beydoun completed 11-of-22 passes for 117 yards, and Sylvester rushed for a season-high 129 yards on 18 carries.

CCHS will return to action against arch-rival St. Francis de Sales on Friday, October 17.  The opening kick vs. the Knights is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Gallagher Stadium.

Prior to kickoff vs. SFDS, Central Catholic will honor 53 seniors from the fall sports of football, cheer, boys’ & girls’ cross country, boys’ golf, marching band, and girls’ tennis.

In addition, CCHS will recognize the 2005 Division II state championship football squad at halftime.

Last fall, Central Catholic defeated St. Francis de Sales, 28-7, at the Glass Bowl Stadium on the campus of the University of Toledo.

The Fighting Irish scored 3 touchdowns in the 4th quarter to pull away from the Knights, helping them secure their 23rd-straight win in the series.  The Fighting Irish was also aided by 2 interceptions in the final 12 minutes, as they successfully retained the coveted Irish-Knight Trophy.  CCHS has not lost to its rival since 2003.
