Football Hosts Rival St. Francis de Sales on “Senior Night” on Cherry St.

The Central Catholic football team will host arch-rival St. Francis de Sales on Friday, October 17 in a non-conference game at 7 p.m. in Gallagher Stadium.

The Fighting Irish will look to secure their 24th-consecutive win in the series and successfully hold onto the coveted Irish-Knight Trophy.  CCHS has not lost to its crosstown rival since 2003.

Prior to kick off against the Knights (5-3, 2-1 CHSL), CCHS will honor 53 seniors from the fall sports of football, cheer, boys’ & girls’ cross country, boys’ golf, marching band, and girls’ tennis.

CCHS quickly extended its lead to 21-10 early in the 3rd quarter on the strength of an 8-yard TD pass from junior QB Ali Beydoun to senior WR Preston Fryzel,

St. Francis de Sales enters Friday’s action on the heels of a 24-17 win vs. Divine Child at the Glass Bowl Stadium on the campus of the University of Toledo.  The Knights have split their last 4 games after opening the fall winning 3 of their 1st 4 contests.

In 2024, Central Catholic defeated SFDS, 28-7, at the Glass Bowl. The Fighting Irish tallied 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions in the 4th quarter to pull away from the rival Knights. CCHS will close out its regular season against Mona Shores on Friday, October 24 at 7 p.m. at home.  The Sailors, who are members of the Ottawa-Kent Conference, have won a pair of state titles on the gridiron in 2019 and 2020.

A season ago, Central Catholic turned away a 2-point conversion with 1:35 left in regulation to secure a 14-13 road victory vs. previously unbeaten Mona Shores. Sylvester paced CCHS with a game-high 104 yards on the ground and 1 TD.
