Wrestling Places Third at Fremont Ross Invitational
The Central Catholic wrestling team turned in a strong showing Saturday at the Fremont Ross “Al Vogenthaller” Invitational, competing against a deep field at Fremont Ross High School.
The Fighting Irish finished third overall among 14 teams, totaling 181 points, trailing only Celina (266 points) and host Fremont Ross (255.5 points). Carey edged Van Buren for fourth place, 147.5–145.
Individually, Central Catholic had seven wrestlers place in the top three, led by freshman Giovanni Aranda, who captured the 120-pound championship.
Four additional Irish grapplers earned runner-up finishes, including junior Alexzander Guerra (138 pounds), junior Joel Osbourne (150 pounds), sophomore Devin Joyner (175 pounds), and junior Tim Crowley III (215 pounds). Junior Brendan Zapadka (113 pounds) and senior Roberto Alvarado Jr. (157 pounds) rounded out the scoring with third-place finishes.
Central Catholic returns to the mat on Wednesday, January 14, hosting Blissfield for “Senior Night” at 6 p.m. The Fighting Irish will honor seniors Luke Andrews, Roberto Alvarado Jr., and Callen Osborne prior to the match.
