Boys’ Basketball Falls Short in Season Opener at Detroit Catholic Central, 50–42

The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team opened its 2025–26 campaign on Friday with a 50–42 road defeat against Detroit Catholic Central in Catholic High School League action.

The Shamrocks (4–1, 2–0 CHSL) used a strong push in the middle two quarters, outscoring the Fighting Irish 27–18 to create separation and protect their home floor.

Junior G Cayden Kynard led the way for Central Catholic (0–1, 0–1 CHSL) with a game-high 19 points, while seniors Manny Johnson and Kaeden Carruthers, along with junior G Jordan Langford, added 7 points each. Johnson came close to a double-double, pulling down a team-best 10 rebounds.

Detroit Catholic Central was paced by Wycell Davis, who finished with a game-high 28 points.

Earlier in the evening, the CCHS freshman team dropped a 50–31 decision, while the junior varsity squad suffered a 67–52 setback.

Central Catholic returns to action on Friday, December 19, when the Irish host Brother Rice in the Sullivan Center. The evening begins with the freshman game at 4:15 p.m., followed by junior varsity and varsity contests. Tickets for Friday’s games can be purchased by clicking HERE.
