Central Catholic Stops Brother Rice in Home Opener, 69-62
The Central Catholic High School boys’ basketball team earned a hard-fought 69–62 victory over Brother Rice on Friday night in the Sullivan Center. With the home-opening win, the Fighting Irish improve to 1–1 overall and 1–1 in the Catholic High School League (CHSL).
Central Catholic set the tone early, building a 33–21 halftime lead and holding off a late push from the visiting Warriors to secure its first victory of the season.
Junior G Cayden Kynard delivered a standout performance, posting a career-high 29 points along with six rebounds to lead the Scarlet & Gray. Senior G Manny Johnson also reached double figures with 14 points and a team-best nine rebounds.
The Fighting Irish received additional contributions from sophomore G/F Wyatt Todorowski (9 points) and senior F Kaeden Carruthers (6 points, 7 rebounds, 4 blocks), providing key balance at both ends of the floor.
Brother Rice’s Jordan McDaniel led all scorers with 31 points, the only Warrior to reach double digits.
In earlier action, the CCHS freshman team fell 49–40, while the junior varsity squad earned a 51–47 victory.
Central Catholic returns to the hardwood on Tuesday, December 23, hosting rival St. John’s Jesuit in the Sullivan Center. The evening begins with the freshman game at 4:15 p.m., followed by junior varsity and varsity contests. Tickets for Wednesday’s games can be purchased by clicking HERE.
