Girls’ Basketball Falls Short in Overtime vs. Start, 59-56
The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team battled through a tightly contested non-league matchup before falling 59–56 in overtime at Start on Wednesday night in the Start Gymnasium. With the hard-fought road loss, the Fighting Irish move to 2–4 on the season.
CCHS had an opportunity to extend the game in the closing seconds of overtime but was unable to get a final shot off before the buzzer.
Senior Nina Stevens led the Scarlet & Gray with 17 points, recording her fourth double-digit scoring performance in the season’s first six games. Senior Serinity Bolden added 13 points, while junior Madison Stricker also chipped in 13 for the Fighting Irish.
Start’s Honey Harper paced all scorers with 23 points, including four of the Spartans’ eight overtime points to seal the win.
Earlier in the evening, the Central Catholic junior varsity team earned an impressive 46–27 road victory.
The Fighting Irish return to action on Saturday, December 20, when they face Sylvania Northview at the Northwest Ohio Holiday Showcase. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the AW Main Gym on the campus of Anthony Wayne High School.
