Central Catholic to Host Dance Showcase on January 10 Featuring OSU, UM, MSU, & IDT

On Saturday, January 10, Central Catholic will host the Nationals Dance Showcase featuring The Ohio State University Dance Team, the University of Michigan Dance Team, the Michigan State University Dance Team, and Central Catholic’s own Irish Dance Team (IDT).  Several other high school dance teams will also perform.

The third-annual event will take place in the Sullivan Center beginning at 2 p.m.  Doors open at 1:30 p.m.  Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at centralcatholic.org/tickets.

IDT’s first dance (jazz) is scheduled for 2:38 p.m. and its second dance (hip-hop) is at 3:54 pm.  The event concludes at 4:50 pm.

“Being able to host the College Dance Showcase at Central Catholic means so much, not only to IDT, but to our entire school and community,” said Nikki Toland ‘08, head coach of the Irish Dance Team.  “Welcoming other high schools alongside some of the most elite college dance teams creates an exciting and inspiring atmosphere at the start of competition season.  Having the opportunity to perform in and host this showcase, while sharing the experience with our family and friends, is something we truly don’t take for granted.  It’s a moment of pride for our program and our school.

“IDT gains so much from the College Dance Showcase beyond just the dance.  Watching and learning from collegiate programs allows us to see the next level of performance and professionalism, which motivates us to push ourselves even further.  IDT also learns the importance of team morale, dynamics, and positivity through observing dancers support each other on and off the floor.  Seeing how college teams carry themselves, handle pressure, and perform with confidence teaches us valuable lessons about leadership, discipline, and teamwork that we can carry into our own season.

“Attending the College Dance Showcase is a great way to support your local high school dance teams, and you also get a rare sneak peak at the routines performed by the Ohio State University, the University of Michigan, and Michigan State.  These are iconic programs that many people only ever see online, and this showcase gives you the chance to experience their energy and talent live.  It’s an exciting event right on Cherry Street that celebrates dance, school spirit, and community!”

Added Greg Dempsey ’90, Central Catholic’s athletic director, “We are honored to host the Nationals Dance Showcase at Central Catholic. The Sullivan Center is one of the premier facilities in the state of Ohio, and our Irish Dance Team is a recognized leader within the dance community. Together, they make Central Catholic a perfect fit to host the Buckeyes, Wolverines, and Spartans.”
