Girls’ Basketball Starts Fast, Defeats Gilmour Academy, 42–30

The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team continued its positive momentum on Tuesday night, earning a 42–30 victory over Gilmour Academy in the Sullivan Center. With the non-conference win, the Fighting Irish improve to 5–5 on the season, marking their second consecutive victory.

Central Catholic set the tone early, jumping out to a 9–1 lead after the opening quarter and building a 23–12 halftime advantage to take firm control of the contest.

Senior G Nina Stevens sparked the strong start, scoring seven of her team-high 13 points in the first half. Junior C Camilla Sanchez added eight points, while the Fighting Irish also received balanced contributions from senior G Serinity Bolden (7 points), senior G Marissa Justen (5 points), and senior F Kyra Melvin (5 points).

Gilmour Academy was led by Morgan Pfundstein, who finished with nine points.

Earlier in the evening, the Central Catholic junior varsity squad suffered a 27-26 home loss over the Lancers.

Central Catholic returns to action on Saturday, January 3, when the Fighting Irish host Oak Harbor in the Sullivan Center. The junior varsity game tips off at 11:30 a.m., followed immediately by the varsity contest. Tickets for Saturday’s non-conference matchup can be purchased by clicking HERE.
