Football Falls to Detroit Catholic Central, 31-12
NOVI, MI - The Central Catholic football team battled on the road Saturday afternoon but came up short against Detroit Catholic Central, falling 31-12 in a Catholic High School League showdown at Fr. Richard Elmer, C.S.B. Stadium.
With the loss, the Fighting Irish fall to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in CHSL play. The setback also snapped Central Catholic’s four-game winning streak.
Sophomore quarterback Lincoln Sellers led the Scarlet & Gray offense, completing 10-of-19 passes for 194 yards and two touchdowns.
Sellers connected with junior wide receiver David Yharbrough for a 49-yard touchdown strike and later found senior wide receiver Amari Eliano for a 52-yard scoring pass.
Senior running back Jeremiah Fuller paced the Fighting Irish ground attack, finishing with a team-high 79 rushing yards on 14 carries.
Central Catholic will look to bounce back against Brother Rice on Friday, October 9, as part of Homecoming Weekend. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Gallagher Stadium.
The finalists for 2026 Homecoming Queen are Gia Delgado, Hope Johnson, Sherlyn Ramirez-Guzman, Layla Laytart, and Madison Stricker. The Homecoming Queen will be announced at halftime of next Friday’s game.
Last fall, Central Catholic defeated Brother Rice, 28-14, at Blue Devils Stadium on the campus of Lawrence Tech University,
The Fighting Irish held the Warriors scoreless in the second half to help them claim their 1st win of the season. Leading the way defensively was defensive lineman Robert Campbell with two sacks. In addition, the Scarlet & Gray took advantage of a 75-yard scoop and score by defensive back Victor Singleton, Jr. following a blocked field goal in the first half.
Offensively, quarterback Ali Beydoun completed 9-of-11 passes for 105 yards, including a two-yard TD pass to senior wide receiver Billy Williams on the final play on the opening half. Fuller added a squad-best 96 yards on the ground on 18 carries.
