Former Staffulty Return to Central Catholic to Celebrate Mass
Former teachers, administrators, and staff members returned to Central Catholic on December 3 for the fourth annual Celebrate Central Mass with our student body in Krompak Hall. They also enjoyed a reception in the library afterward. More than 30 people attended the event, which is designed to honor Central Catholic’s past, celebrate our present, and recognize the meaningful impact that faculty and staff have on our students.
According to CCHS Head of School, Kevin Parkins, the Celebrate Central Mass started as a random idea to see if people would be interested in coming back, and it has now become one of our favorite events. “We stand on the shoulders of our former faculty and staff, and they put a lot of love and energy into this school,” he said. “Hearing them share their stories and seeing their camaraderie, even after some of them have been away for many years, is wonderful. When I interact with alumni, they always ask me about their former teachers and talk about what a difference they made in their lives. It’s important that we bring them back and let them know that they made such an impact.”
“Central Catholic High School is not a place to work, but a family to belong to,” added Priest Leader, Fr. Kevin Moebius (Class of 1999). “And our Celebrate Central Mass is more than a gathering, it's a family reunion. We welcome back the many who have given their time, their talents, and part of their very lives to this great institution. I love seeing many of the people who were part of my development as a student at CCHS. We pray together in gratitude!”
Kathy Bohl taught English at Central Catholic from 1999 to 2004, and she attended the event. “My kids were students here, and when a spot opened up for an English teacher, they wanted me to apply,” she recalled. “What I found at Central Catholic were kindred spirits - people who have the same outlook on education that I have. I love the way I was embraced by everyone here, and I made friends for life.”
Paula Domitio taught business and computer classes at CCHS from 1978 to 2010. “It’s the people that bring me back here,” she said. “And the Mass brought me to tears, it was so beautiful.”
Mitch Naufel, who taught physical education from 1981 to 2010, agreed that the people are what makes Central Catholic so special. “I love catching up with my fellow teachers and administrators," he said. “And the students are just as great as when I was teaching here. I also enjoy visiting the old gym. It’s a relic! It may have a new name, but it still has the same great spirit.”
Central Catholic appreciates the opportunity to honor our former faculty and staff, and we look forward to having them join us for this special event again next year!!!
