No. 2 Central Catholic Falls to No. 7 St. Mary’s Preparatory in CHSL Bishop Tourney Quarterfinals, 55-46
The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team suffered a 55-46 setback to St. Mary’s Preparatory in the Catholic High School League Bishop Tournament Quarterfinals on Saturday at Cicerone Court. With the neutral-site loss on the campus of Marian High School, the Fighting Irish move to 14-3 on the season.
The No. 7-seeded Eaglets outscored the No. 2-seeded Irish 21-10 in the decisive fourth quarter, snapping Central Catholic’s nine-game winning streak.
Junior guard Cayden Kynard led the Scarlet & Gray with 14 points, followed by junior guard Jason Lawson Jr. with 10. Senior guard Draden Wardrop added eight points, while senior guard Manny Johnson finished with seven.
Elijah Hines paced St. Mary’s Prep with a game-high 17 points. Bela Matyus and DJ Banks each scored 11, and Chad Willis added 10 to help the Eaglets avenge a 45-42 loss to Central Catholic on January 9 at the Dombrowski Fieldhouse.
Central Catholic returns to action Tuesday, February 17, when the Fighting Irish travel to Findlay for a non-conference matchup. The freshman game tips off at 4:45 p.m. in Findlay, followed immediately by the junior varsity and varsity contests.
