State Champion Simone Green Named Track & Field Coach at Alma Mater

Central Catholic alumna and 2019 OHSAA state champion Simone Green ’19 has been named the head track & field coach at her alma mater, Director of Athletics Greg Dempsey ’90 recently announced.

“We are very excited about Simone becoming our track & field coach,” said Dempsey. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and high-level experience to the position.  Through her experiences, she will be able to teach our athletes what it takes to reach their maximum potential.  Simone has assembled an outstanding staff that will help build on the track and field program’s strong tradition.”

Green called the opportunity a full-circle moment.

“Returning to my alma mater as the head track & field coach is truly special,” Green said.  “This program helped develop me as a young athlete and woman, and it’s an honor to now lead it.  I’m excited to begin this season alongside an outstanding staff committed to developing our athletes both on and off the track.  Our goal is to build a culture that reflects faith, accountability, and excellence in everything we do.”

Green returned to Cherry Street last January as a college and career advisor, where she helps students prepare for life after graduation through college, financial aid, and scholarship guidance, as well as career exploration.

“I wanted to return to Central Catholic because it feels like home,” Green said.  “As an alumna, I experienced firsthand the supportive environment and strong sense of community that makes this school so special.  It’s a blessing to give back and help students take their next steps.”

Green earned bachelor’s degrees in psychology and business administration (marketing) from the University of Findlay, along with a master’s degree in applied communication from the University of Central Missouri.  At Findlay, she was president of the Black Students Union and was active in campus ministry, the President’s Students Council on Belonging, youth mentorship, and the track & field team.  She set the school records in the indoor and outdoor triple jump and the indoor long jump, earning 12 All-Region honors, four GMAC Academic All-Conference selections, and three Academic All-American honors.

During her time at Central Catholic, Green was an Irish Scholar, recipient of the Christian Discipleship Award, and winner of the Servant Leadership Award as the senior who completed the most service hours.  She was also a standout on the Lady Irish track & field team, capturing the 2019 OHSAA state championship in the long jump.
