Football Dismantles Rival St. Francis de Sales, 47-7, to Retain Irish-Knight Trophy

TOLEDO, OH - The Central Catholic football team opened Catholic High School League (CHSL) play in impressive fashion, dominating crosstown rival St. Francis de Sales, 47-7, on Friday night inside the Glass Bowl at the University of Toledo.

With the convincing victory, the Fighting Irish improved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in CHSL play, while securing their 25th consecutive victory in the series and once again retaining the coveted Irish-Knight Trophy.  Central Catholic has not lost to the Knights (1-3, 0-1 CHSL) since 2003.

Senior captain Jeremiah Fuller powered the Scarlet & Gray offense with four touchdowns.  Fuller rushed for 101 yards on 13 carries with three scores in the first half alone and has now recorded multiple touchdowns in each of the Fighting Irish’s last three games.

Sophomore quarterback Lincoln Sellers returned to the lineup and was sharp through the air, completing 9-of-11 passes for 185 yards and a touchdown to help fuel the Central Catholic offensive attack.

The Fighting Irish were equally impressive on the defensive side of the ball.  Central Catholic finished with a commanding 370-153 advantage in total offense and held St. Francis de Sales to minus-nine rushing yards for the game.

CCHS will return to Gallagher Stadium to host another crosstown rival, St. John’s Jesuit, on Friday, September 18.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Last fall, CCHS defeated the Titans, 42-7, at Lyden Field.  Central Catholic took advantage of 152 yards rushing and three TDs by Fuller to collect its 11th straight win vs. SJJ.  Fuller found the end zone on scoring runs of 16, 18, and two yards, all in the first half.

Central Catholic also benefited from TD passes by quarterback Ali Beydoun to wide receivers Preston Fryzel and Jerome Davis V, along with a 54-yard scoop and score by defensive back Victor Singleton, Jr. following a blocked field-goal attempt, prompting a running clock in the second half.
