Andrei Irimia Named Student of the Month for March
Junior Andrei Irimia isa member of the National Honor Society and the Insignis Society, maintaining a 4.5 GPA. He has also been a member of the varsity wrestling team for three years, and he compiled a 23-10 record during his junior season and became a sectional champion. He is a two-year varsity soccer player and served as a team captain, taking on a leadership role and helping guide his teammates both on and off the field.
“I chose to attend Central Catholic because of its strong academic reputation and the opportunity to be part of a community that some of my family’s friends are a part of,” Andrei said. “I was drawn to the school’s high academic standards and supportive environment. My education here has challenged me to push myself academically, especially in courses like Honors Algebra 2, which has been my favorite class. Central Catholic has helped me grow into a more disciplined and motivated student, while also shaping me into a well-rounded individual through athletics and leadership opportunities.”
“Andrei is a very engaged, hardworking, and curious learner,” said Brent Matus ‘20, physics teacher. “He continually asks high level questions that deepen the topic of discussion. He also goes out of his way to help classmates.”
“Andrei is a great athlete, and in the second half of the season things really started to click for him,” added Brad Mossing ‘09, assistant wrestling coach. “If he continues his dedication and comes to wrestling workouts during the off season, I’m sure he’ll make it to the state tournament next year. Not only is he an amazing athlete, but he's also incredibly smart.”
After high school, Andrei plans to attend Bowling Green State University and major in aviation. “My long-term goal is to become a pilot,” he explained. “I’m excited to pursue a career that requires both technical skill and responsibility, and I believe my experiences and the discipline I’ve gained, especially through athletics, have prepared me to succeed in this field.”
